Secretary's Report- GBM- 2019

Respected Seniors & Dear Friends ,

It gives me great pleasure and pride to present secretary’s report of east delhi orthopaedics association before this august gathering. It was late 2017 when I was handed the responsibility of secretary’s post taking over from Dr Inder Ahuja. Since then it has been a great learning experience for me managing this association.

The focus of our tenure has always been to improve the academic content and the attendance of our academic meetings. It was a conscious decision of the present EC to focus our bimonthly meetings on Trauma and gradually all the trauma topics were covered during these meetings. We always tried to invite experts of respective fields for our meetings which I found was not difficult as EDOA enjoys great respect and reputation everywhere and everyone wants to get invited for our meetings. There was also a speaker from EDOA for these meetings to encourage and improve our local speakers. Most of our meetings are well attended now and I regularly get enquiries for our future meetings.

This time we’ve also constituted an Ethics committee headed by Prof Arun Goel, Dr Rajeev Jain to look into various ethical and legal matters affecting our members.

Apart from these regular bimonthly meetings there were some other meetings held too. These included a meeting on Medico-legal aspects related to Orthopedics surgeon and a meeting on “Difficult implant removal”, which was graced by Dr D. D. Tanna. Both of these meetings were well attended and well appreciated by everyone.

DOACON 2019, the annual conference of Delhi Orthopedics Association, organized by East Delhi Orthopedics Association was held on 9th , 10th Nov at Hotel Crown Plaza, Mayur Vihar. The Pre- conference workshops were held at the same venue on 8th Nov.

a) 3D printing in Orthopedics Surgery( Organised by Dr Lalit Maini & Team)

(b) Role of Smartphone and PC in Orthopedics clinical practice ( Organised by Dr Shashank Misra & Dr Shekhar Srivastav). This workshop was arranged in collaboration with Dr Neeraj Bijlani and Dr Shyam who gave useful tips to how to use technology to make your professional life simpler.

Such was the interest generated among the delegates for these workshops that we had to forcibly close the workshop to vacate the hall. There were 75 delegates for the workshops.

Conference- The main conference was held on 9th & 10th . There were 240 delegates & 120 faculty ( International, National & from Delhi). The Prominent faculty included Dr Della Rocca from USA, Dr D D Tanna, Prof S M Tuli, Prof S S Yadav, Prof Ramesh Sen, Dr Mukesh Jain, Dr Shivshankar, Dr Shekhar Agarwal, Dr J Maheshwari , Prof Siwach and many more senior and distinguished surgeons. The academic programme consisted of Lectures, Debates, panel Discussions and Surgical technique demonstrations. We paid respect to our respected departed soul Dr V.K.Dogra & Dr P.N. Lekhi by naming our two halls after them. Dr P Chandra Oration by Dr Arvind Jaiswal & past president oration by Dr Ramesh Kumar were widely appreciated. There were also 56 free paper presentations ( including 20 PG papers ) & Posters presentations( 52) . For the first time in DOACON there was also the option of residential registration at the venue. There was active support from the industry also which participated actively considering the popularity of this event.

All this was made possible by active support and participation by our seniors and colleagues. There was constant guidance from respected Prof Goel & Dr Goswami & tremendous support from our President Dr Inder Ahuja & EC members Dr Rajiv Jain, Dr SA, Dr Tomar, Dr Tayal, Dr Bhargava, Dr Hemant Gupta, Dr Vijay, Dr U.P. Singh and all other EC members. I’d like to specially thank Dr Shashank & Dr Amit Kansal ( perhaps the most hard working guy for EDOA) who were always ready to take any responsibility taking a lot of load off my shoulder. It is this teamwork which makes this association the most enviable association among all other association and I’m proud to be able to serve this association as secretary.
